Club Nanotecnicos

A friend of mine recently lent me her librarian informational books.  The second page in the book quickly mentioned that in order for a library to survive and thrive with members, it must adopt and evolve with the its community.

If we can inspire the youth to visit the library, maybe we can do a little more than just encourage books.  We can inspire them to do STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math).  While STEAM activities have been around a long time at children’s museums and teachers have been using them in their classrooms, we have decided to also bring it locally to our library.

Sometimes teachers have a fixed schedule and quickly do an overview of the projects or not all children get a chance to participate.  Some children might need a little more time and hands-on practice to full understand the experiments.  Our library now has a club for all school age children called: Nanotecnicos.

The only requirement is showing up with an open mind of wanting to learn. We have covered different mass matters by creating bubble solution (liquid to gas) we also made slime and play dough (liquid mixtures to solids).

Volunteers, participants, and students are welcome to join us.
